Recent Events - Christmas 2007

Unlike previous years, your photographer was able to be present at most of the events over the Christmas period in 2007. Here are just some of the pictures

At the beginning of Advent we hold a Toy and Gift Service and lit the first Advent Candle.

The gifts we brought were for children in families being helped by Spurgeons Child Care and for the elderly residents of Gainsford House.

Two ladies from Spurgeons told about their work. We heard about the progress being made since last year.

Our event for younger children, Pull a Cracker for Christmas, was as popular as ever. Activites soon got under way.

Even Dads were allowed to join in the fun.

And then they all went into the church past Rudolph, on sentry duty by the door, for story time, a video about the first Christmas, told from the viewpoint of the donkey, and a sing-song.

Here's everybody singing 'Here we go up to Bethlehem', to the tune of 'Gathering nuts in May'.

In the following morning's service Sharon led the way. We had to choose between peace, justice, Christ, freedom and good news.

On the Tuesday we set out in the bitter cold to sing carols for our friends around the neighbourhood. Followed by very welcome coffee and mince pies at the home of one of our members.

On the Sunday before Christmas we held our usual carol service. Here are the choir singing their hearts out.

On Christmas day we held our celecration of Jesus' birth. Emma spoke of her work with young people in Bristol....

And the youngsters in Bright Sparks made this superb collage crib scene.

And we lit the last of the candles - the central Christmas candle, even though it wasn't quite straight.
